Re: IMSLP on DVD

The only order I have is from someone who is not a regular contributor. Not a single person who has posted on this thread has sent an order. Anyone who wishes to publicize the DVD set further is of course welcome to do so, but I have chosen not to do this myself. One set of masters is resting quietl...

Re: IMSLP on DVD

17 DVDs are required to hold the collection.

It is, however, an academic matter since there are not enough orders to meet the minimum for duplication.

Re: IMSLP on DVD

The 0 pages entries are, generally, locked PDFs; less often, they may be due to bugs in the scripts that create the index. They are not download errors. The PDFs are downloaded accurately, and I have performed considerable crosschecking to be sure. Every PDF is verified using tools designed for the ...

Re: IMSLP on DVD

I'll see what I can do. I haven't burned the master for the index CD yet so there is still time for changes.

Re: IMSLP on DVD

Is it safe to assume that the DVD collection does not include the blocked items? The collection does not include any items that were blocked from download in the U.S. at the time the download of the individual file was performed, which varies over the last two months from one file to another. Items...

Re: IMSLP on DVD

Sample content, index files only with no PDFs, is available at http://www.nerstrand.net/mirror. Quick question: does "sample content" mean that this is only a partial listing? Unless I'm overlooking something, there are some 600 composers listed, whereas IMSLP has over 1600. Clearly for s...

Re: IMSLP on DVD

US$75 postpaid in the U.S., $80 postpaid for the rest of the world, including first-class postage. That's my cost, roughly. I'll probably lose a dollar or two on each set unless there are orders for more than 50 sets, which I don't expect. Most of it is the duplication charges with the blank media, ...

IMSLP on DVD

During the period starting October 17, 2007, when IMSLP went dark, I fully expected a mirror site to appear. Surely, I thought, someone unaffected by the takedown notice would have a complete backup in their posession, and after a brief delay while hosting arrangements were made and legal advice sou...

Re: allowing lilypond and MusicXML source upload

Size of the attachment, generally, is not an issue. Bear in mind that PDFs produced by typesetting programs are typically smaller than PDFs that result from scans, and the source files for typesetting programs are typically small compared to the size of the PDFs. A recent example I happen to have at...

PDFs with errors

In the same light as some of my other recent posts, I note that there are a very few PDFs with errors, at least according to the Multivalent tools . I've checked these and they appear to work normally in Adobe reader despite the error: IMSLP15385, IMSLP15427, IMSLP15479 - cause tool.pdf.Validate to ...

Re: Encrypted PDF files in IMSLP

While I agree that we should respect the editor's wishes, the CC-BY-SA license under which the score is available permits derivative uses. If that is contrary to the editor's or publisher's wishes, perhaps they should consider CC-BY-ND instead.

Re: Long file names

The non-Ascii characters are indeed also a problem for some applications, see by way of extreme example "IMSLP25557-PMLP37487-????????? ?????????? ???? ??? ?????? ? ??????????.pdf" by Giovanni Bottesini. On the other hand, most modern file systems do support them, and Ascii-only transliter...

Long file names

I note that there are a number of files in IMSLP that have extremely long names, over 100 characters.

This poses problems for certain file systems that impose limits of around 100 characters. Would the admins be willing to address this, if I provide a list of affected files?

Re: Organ

Bach's works are among the most difficult in the Baroque repertoire.

Instead, try:

Fischer - Ariadne Musica
Bach (?) - Eight short preludes and fugues
Pachelbel - Fugues on the magnificat
Pachelbel - Toccatas.
Zachow - Chorale preludes

From the error logs of a script that calculates page counts. It is a side effect of a much larger and more important effort, the details of which I will be announcing here in a few days.
