Don't worry, that isn't part of the proposals. And if a way could be found to make these "manual" lists "automatic", they would be even more useful than they already are.

Proposed new genres

After taking into account all the feedback from previous discussions (see elsewhere in this Forum), I've drastically altered the proposals for new genres, which can be seen here: http://imslp.org/wiki/User:P.davydov/Genre_Categories There are now only 8 proposed broad categories, with optional 'sub-...

Re: [FEAT] browse by composer nationality?

Thanks, Feldmahler, that's very clear and helpful. I've just tested the new template entries for nationality, which works very well. As it's a relatively quick cut and paste job to modify the pages where the categories have already been added, I'd prefer to do this so that people don't pick up any '...

Re: [FEAT] browse by composer nationality?

If someone who understands these things can edit the composer FTE template to include the field for nationality, then I'll convert all the pages I edited earlier today to use the new template, and a team of us (hopefully) can get to work on the rest. Note that there are some composers who changed na...

Re: [FEAT] browse by composer nationality?

Feldmahler, I can only say that no-one mentioned a 'template solution' when KGill first came up with the idea, or asked if he could go ahead, or even when he started last night. Thinking this was an excellent idea, and with some time on my hands today, I joined in enthusiastically, to find that I'm ...

Re: [FEAT] browse by composer nationality?

Wikipedia seems to classify some composers rather oddly- for instance, Szymanowski is listed as Polish even though he was born in the Ukraine. Szymanowski's family were Polish, but at the time of his birth they were living in the Ukraine, which was then part of the Russia Empire (and the country of...

Re: Linking work pages to Wikipedia articles

I think if a link can be systematized out of a pile of links, it ought to be. It is also common for wikis to have standardized inter-wiki links. I'm all in favour of having standardized links, which is why I think IMSLP should link to Wikipedia in the same way as Wikipedia links back to IMSLP — und...

Re: Linking work pages to Wikipedia articles

There are quite a few pages with two or more external links, only one of which is to Wikipedia. Would it really be helpful to split these up?

Re: Linking work pages to Wikipedia articles

By "at the botom of the page", I meant still within the template (as in the examples I gave). Apologies for any confusion.

Re: Linking work pages to Wikipedia articles

I see what you mean, but the multi-language code will still work if pasted at the bottom of the page. Like this: ====External Links==== * [[wikipedia:{{#iflang:en=Eugene Onegin (opera)|de=de:Eugen Onegin (Oper)|es=es:Eugenio Oneguin (ópera)|fr=fr:Eugène Onéguine (opéra)|it=it:Franz Liszt|nl=nl:Jevge...

Re: Linking work pages to Wikipedia articles

You can just add the heading:

====External Links====

... at the end of the work page, with a bullet point underneath linking to the Wikipeda article. See the Brahms, Dvorak and Tchaikovsky pages for some examples.

Re: FAQ: what do the copyright-review codes mean?

I asked a friend of mine who knows about these things to look into it. He found that Edward Agate was born in 1880 at Pendleton (near Manchester), and died at York on 18 October 1940, aged 60. So it looks like Agate's translations will remain in copyright in the EU until 1 January 2011 — not too lon...

Re: Genre categories. Volunteers now wanted!

See what you think about using the both the big and small category separated by a colon, I suggested it before. It helps keeps track of the whole hierarchy, which I like but others might not. For instance, it might be obvious that a sacred work will have text, therefore must be Choral, but it's jus...
