Re: is removal of certain editing features enough?

The manuscript added is the composer's actual holograph looking at the corresponding RISM record for it. So you now have all you need to determine what to remove.

Re: The Trans-Pacific Partnership New Update

Unless yet another extension is passed, the 1923 items enter US public domain January 1, 2019 (publication + 95 years) and so on for each year thereafter.

Re: This is a little weird

As long as you can document a performance/broadcast, recording or "delivery" (likely meaning a contract for publication) more than 50 years ago, the work is eligible. Since he died after 1948, the rule in Canada gets stricter and items not meeting the above criteriae are eligible for Canad...

Re: Help to identify a (copyrighted) edition of Scarborough Fair

The only thing I can tell you for sure is that it appears to have been done in Sibelius. Might narrow down the possible list a bit.

Re: Neuen Berlioz-Ausgabe

With critical editions it does not matter if the editor is alive or dead less than 50 years. Our voluntary rule is closely patterned on Germany's Section 70, which sets a term of 25 years from date of publication for such editions (literally "scientific editions" in their law). They are no...

Re: is removal of certain editing features enough?

Looking at the ca.1792 mss, it appears that Rust may well have included slurs, articulations and even fingerings (a little unusual). There is a good chance that a fair number of those in the score you're working on originate from the composer. Did you try looking to see if the sonata you're interest...

Re: Are fantasias really arrangements?

Like so many things, it depends on the nature of the item. There plenty of operatic derivatives which are little more than medleys or mere highlights of the more popular tunes. These certainly qualify as arrangements - there's no originality involved apart from abridgement, simplification and maybe ...

Re: Copyright Protected vs. Public Domain Material

This is actually something of a misunderstanding on your part. While it is true that a majority of the 122,000 works are out of copyright at least in Canada, there are quite a few items that are under a type of copyright here (more than half the files, actually). These files are all available here u...

You would need to be able to compare the original with the newer edition. Generally, things from ca.1800 don't include a lot of articulations, etc. as you probably know. However, there are exceptions, especially if the composer was a well-known teacher.

Re: Are fantasias really arrangements?

Only in an older sense of the term than is commonly used now. Depending on how far it departs from the incorporated material, these can range anywhere from original compositions to a simple pastiche or medley of the famous tunes. In any case, that was one of the reasons the OpDerivs template was set...

That would definitely be a piece worth having. I'll see if it turns up when I visit some black holes and similar dark venues next time. Russia theoretically has a copyright law, but its application is .... peculiar.

Re: How can I simplify the Scanner, Uploader and Date fields?

Not as you describe. Sometimes you can use Scanner=myfriend (no number) if that person did the majority of the scans and then use Scanner 5=coulonnus Scanner 6=coulonnus for the remainder. This seems to work only for newer items though.

Re: system messes up titles

You can put whatever you like in the General Information section of the work page - even Kanji characters and much else. That's the place Google and other index bots use most often anyway. The downside is that you sometimes have to amend after the fact as the system will default to an initial cap ev...

Absolutely not. There would be little point in having collection pages if that were the case.
