Re: Creating a template listing Rimsky-Korsakov's operas

Why do we need to mention details like the dates of various versions of these on a navigation box? The versions of any given opera are all going to be on the same page, after all. Other than this minor detail, looks perfect - and a very helpful addition.

Re: Urtext edition based on a ca. 1700 manuscript

Yes, in a word. The collection of 55 pieces is not original to the editor so the only thing in play is the edition.

Re: Corelli Opus 5

You should be adding your arrangements to the individual pages for the 12 items in Op.5. Yes, if you have scores (only) of a number of the sonatas these can be included on the collection page under the Arrangements and Transcriptions tab, but one of the reasons we've been setting up collection pages...

Re: How do you determine copyright status if the date of the decease of the composer is unknown ?

Generally, if something was published in the 1920s or 1930s, one would logically assume that the composer was at least 20 years old or thereabouts. This is actually a case where the "before 1923" rule of the USA is fairly handy as things published before that year have a very high percenti...

Re: Publishing elsewhere

There should be no problem with this. I think the only detail is that you need retain the same license in all cases if your using creative commons.

Re: What is IMSLP's definition of a collection?

It really boils down to whether or not the items are intended to be performed as one unit or not, rather than opus numbers. Until late in Beethoven's lifetime, nearly everything except larger works (symphonies, operas, etc.) were issued in collections - even more so in Haydn and Mozart's day and bef...

Re: O sole mio

Interesting case. No issue in the USA but Canada does present an issue so I expect these will need to go to the USA server until January 2023. The one issue not mentioned here is whether or not this transfer would be considered as a 'work made for hire' in the various locales were this legal concept...

Re: Piano reduction = urtext?

That gets complicated sometimes. It really boils down to the question of whether or not the piano reduction is something more than a mere transcription of the bass line and the violin parts (plus some fill) into 2 staves or not. Lots of piano reductions of older music fall into this category and thu...

Names, titles and short phrases are not subject to copyright, but they might be subject to trademark claims.

Re: What has happened to my submission?

The ultimate objective is to have a page for every single work. Collection pages are simply pages for scans of printed volumes that contain more than one work. When there are arrangements and new editions of individual works found on a collection page they should be offloaded onto newly-created page...

Re: Name change

This cannot be done. Usernames are always capitalized. They also cannot be changed. Moreover, setting up multiple usernames is grounds for banning as it's a common tactic of spammers. For those with subscriptions, having more than one username is a near-guarantee of login problems.

Re: "I-Catalogue Numbers"

It does not replace opus numbers or any extant cataloging system. It's purpose is strictly to handle cases where a composer has more than one work with an identical title - Vivaldi and composers of his era were especially prone to simply title everything with a generic "concerto" and the l...

Re: Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto #2

By Rachmaninoff's day, Jossuk's point is quite correct. Solo piano parts with cues were pretty much a thing of the past by 1910. Go back a century and it's a different story.

Re: Miraculous Mandarin copyright

They're grasping at straws. The only possible case in which the copyright of the story might apply would be an actual ballet performance in which the basic outlines of Lengyel's story was followed. Even then the connection is very tenuous as Lengyel was not the choreographer, and the outline of the ...

Re: is removal of certain editing features enough?

The manuscript added is the composer's actual holograph looking at the corresponding RISM record for it. So you now have all you need to determine what to remove.
