Re: Copyright Clarification on Strauss - Salome Complete Orchestra Parts
As Sallen noted, the work is public domain (now worldwide, having been free in the USA for a long time). Anyone can reprint a public domain work. There is no content difference between reprints made by the now-defunct Kalmus and those made by Serenissima apart from the name you see on the item. The ...

Re: Noten Roehr copyright infringement
This is not the type of thing covered by a 'class-action' suit, but a copyright infringement suit. One of the peculiarities of the CC license is that it expires instantly upon violation of its terms by an end user. So when Noten Roehr started offering the item in question for sale they killed the CC...

Re: Using scores that are "n.d."
Items published without a date were automatically injected into the US public domain upon publication if first published before 1978. If published 1978-1988 the public domain injection was not automatic, but copyright owners had to file a claim of copyright and the certify that the publication witho...

Re: Gara Garayev - Azerbaijani March
The work in question might be free in the USA due to failure to file an NIE - it's certainly under copyright elsewhere though. It's not among the small number of Garayev works for which NIEs were filed. Also, Garayev is an interesting case where the Azerbaijani copyright agency has reclaimed the rig...

Re: The First Nowell in wrong category
This is because arrangements of folk songs go under the arranger's category page as if it were a composition. Since folk songs are simply melodies with text, almost any setting is going to be an arrangement of one type or another. Some arrangements are very extensive, with so much new material added...

Re: Two typos in filename (easy fix?)
Can't fix at all by simply changing the name (this breaks the link to the file). It really doesn't matter as long as the title of the page itself is correct.

Re: International copyright status of orchestration of piano work in public domain
The short answer to your question about performances outside the USA is: Probably not. The composer died in 1987 and the work was published in Norway, whose term is 70-pma and has long been a Berne Union member-state, which means it enjoys the full term in all Berne member states. It's not altogethe...

Re: How to upload a work with multiple copmosers
We have a special category of "Collaborations" for this situation. If the work in question is known mainly under a particular composer it can be added under that category, another alternative being adding under the composer whose contribution is greatest. This is done after creation of the...

No. Kurt Soldan died in 1946. Even assuming the edition is not basically an urtext-type edition (most of his were, actually), he's been dead more than 70 years. While I am sure Edition Peters thinks their publication should be protected by an eternal copyright, they still haven't bribed enough polit...

Re: Saint-Saëns "Urbs Roma" manuscript
There is no copyright whatsoever in Canada or the EU. There might be a copyright (on the work itself) in the USA if actual first publication really took place in 1974. The whole question of when first publication takes place gets very involved - thanks in part to the helpful efforts of libraries to ...

Re: Rimsky-Korsakov - Allegro from Les Vendredis
Unless there is something of an original nature added by the editor of the 2014 edition you have no problem. Why not use the Belaieff parts we have here instead? Peters (who now owns the Belaieff name) has been particularly notorious about placing fraudulent claims of copyright on reprints of things...

Re: US 1923 limit: 20 grace years?
The 20-year exemption applies only to publicly-funded libraries (like Sibley) and only for the USA. It's supposed to be limited to works which are no longer available commercially as well.

Re: Clemens non Pappa edition from ~1960
As long as you are careful to avoid the editor's preface or any other genuinely original contribution from the editor (like a reconstruction of missing material) it is eligible.
