Re: "Public domain" scores from the Bibliothèque nationale de France

If the images in question are from 19th century editions of works by Chopin there are probably scores of libraries in Europe that have those same editions available--many probably online. If you're not comfortable using BNF's image check the German and Polish libraries found on this page . Furthermo...

Re: "Public domain" scores from the Bibliothèque nationale de France

Libraries using database rights seems to me to be just a questionable means for them to claim ownership of images of works in the public domain. I'm glad to see that the U.S. (surprisingly) doesn't honor such attempts to circumvent copyright law.

Re: "Public domain" scores from the Bibliothèque nationale de France

Their reproduction has the status of derivative work. At least in the United States this is definitely not so. A photographic reproduction of a work that is in the public domain is not protected under copyright. See: Bridgeman Art Library v. Corel Corp. . Also, note the final paragraph of that arti...

Re: "scanned by ..." What to do with Walter Cosand scores?

If the scores are in the public domain there's no reason not to upload them to IMSLP. I'd suggest leaving the scanner field empty and perhaps adding a link to waltercosand.com as the source of the PDF in the miscellaneous notes field.

Re: Modern in time, but not in spirit

The "Piece Style" option was introduced not that long ago and the intention of it was to attempt to better categorize works by their style as opposed to the time period in which a composer lived. Many noted that time period became a problematic way to categorize composers and their works w...

Re: Public Domain, Editor, and Arranger

You should list yourself as the arranger. You can also upload the LilyPond source file but you will need to archive it and upload it contained in a Zip archive file. Your submissions are certainly welcome. I would suggest that you create a composer category for yourself and then "associate"...

Re: Problem Piano Trio, Op.40 (Meinardus, Ludwig Siegfried)

New files have been uploaded. Don't use the inline viewer (ViewerJS) as that may continue to show the old versions of the files (for the violin and cello parts) for months.

Re: monochrome image with grayscale background

This pdf was generated by the Internet Archive from images (originally in full color) in the jpg2000/jp2 format. In my experience your best bet is to forget about the pdf and go to the source at the Internet Archive . On that page you should see a link entitled "SINGLE PAGE ORIGINAL JP2 TAR.&qu...

Re: Typesets by IMSLP contributor found elsewhere

This is a bit of an odd case. Schneider's edition on archive.org originated from IMSLP. If you click the "show more" button it will show you the source and the url given leads you to this deleted page on IMSLP. Back in 2012 a large chunk of IMSLP scores were backed up to archive.org and th...

Re: How to link to my page

The proper editor link has now been added. If you edit the work page for Les Indes galantes look for the following line:

|Editor={{LinkEd|Luca|Albanese}}

Using the LinkEd template will cause the work page to show up beneath your category page under the "As Editor" tab.

Re: Leichte Kavallerie Ouverture - Organ Arrangement is actually a Horn Part

This is what sometimes happens when you upload files using the same file name as an already-uploaded file. The system considered Ldeutsch's file to be a duplicate of Violagal's typeset horn part and so simply created a link to that already-upload file. I've now added Mr. Deutsch's arrangement using ...

Re: PD-in-US work by Paul Le Flem

I've unlocked Le Flem's category for you. When you reach the "Add Files" page don't forget that there is a different process to upload files to the U.S. server. At the end of the line "If a file is public domain only in the United States (e.g. was published before 1923 but author died...
