Looks pretty good, Peter. The only imnprovement I can think of would be to add something about the German term "Bearbeitet von <editor>"

BTW, Funper there are quite a few editions of Liszt which are free. Breitkopf issued a collected works edition from 1907-1936 in 39 volumes, which is free nearly everywhere. Peters issued 12 volumes of piano works edited by E. von Sauer in 1917 and 2 volumes of organ works edited by Karl Straube at ...

As for the items without plate number, EMB has a very distinctive engraving style which is quite recognizable by those familiar with such things (something which can't be said of all publishers, especially since the advent of computerized engraving). The publisher of record is definitely EMB. Baeren...

Thanks for clearing up the confusion. On the Soler, it's always a good idea to have permission in writing from the actual claimant in the event they sold their copyright to someone else who wished for it to be removed.

Copyright review - Britten, Penderecki, Cowell, Messiaen

I noticed a few files up for review by Cowell, Britten, Penderecki, and Messiaen, plus a couple of articles for Mahler (Piano 5tet) and Soler. Most of the Cowell pieces are early piano works which are free in the USA (The Irish Legends and the Ings). The Banshee and the Snows of Fujiyama are still p...

The potential problem I see with "commercial provider" is that there are, realistically speaking, only a few of them. CDSM is the biggest, then there's EveryNote (now available via Amazon), plus a few folks who seem to hang out at E-Bay. Elibron offered downloads for pay at one point, but ...

I expect that not mentioning it at all, or mentioning it only in the most vague of terms, is the best course. While it's 99.5% certain that CDSM's claim of copyright on PDF files made from scans of public domain scores would not stand up for long in either a Canadian or a US court, it would still co...

Restampa means simply "reprinted." All of the songs were first published in Verdi's lifetime, though a number were first issued by publishers other than Ricordi, who was Verdi's principal publisher. I'd have to look it up in the Hopkinson bibliography to confirm, but I think that Ricordi p...

I agree. It is conceivable that even the use of the trademarked name - "CD Sheet Music" in anything apart from a discussion about it - could be the subject of a lawsuit, whether or not it would hold up in court.

O Mio Babbino Caro (Puccini)

It's from Gianni Schicchi, not Madama Butterfly.

Mahler Piano 4tet

I just noticed what appears to be a very recent edition of this youthful work by J. Gedan that was apparently not posted by the editor.

The copyright situation for works published in the old USSR (called simply the "soyuz" by the natives) is somewhat confusing. The GATT/TRIPS amendments to the US Copyright law "restored" Soviet works to protection (which they'd previously not enjoyed in the US at all). However, t...

Hi. There link is:

I've no idea of how many other items of this description might be lurking. Arrangements have the same copyright status as original works in most countries, in contrast to editions.
