Re: Music? Composer? Orchestration or Composion?
think there needs to be new music that reflects tonality, not the avant-garde works that have been composed in the last sixty years. The two aren't mutually exclusive. I do partly agree with you though; I think tonality does add a lot to music. Bernstein said in his Harvard lectures that avant-gard...

Re: Mahler's Annotated Symphony No.1
That's wonderful!
Anyway to download it? The SWF I downloaded doesn't seem to work (doubted it would though).

Re: Writing Symphonies
A symphony is a symphony when a composer says it is, regardless of duration or scoring. My main point is this: If anything can be called a 'car', the word 'car' loses all meaning. If any piece of music can be called a 'symphony' the word 'symphony' now carries no descriptive (or otherwise) meaning ...

Applicants for this project are mostly superfluous now, effectively applications are closed from now.

Re: Favorite Quotes Made by Composers
So these were the three circumstances that compelled me to experiment in music: I was involved in music; I was working with turntables (then with tape-recorders); I was horrified by modern 12-tone music. I said to myself, 'Maybe I can find something different... maybe salvation, liberation, is poss...

Re: Overrated, Overused, Overdone, underrated etc.
Not all forums are the same. They range from the likes of the BBC forums to the likes of 4chan, and they are managed in entirely different ways. Besides, if we were here to do what everybody does, then we should be listening to Britney Spears, as was recently suggested by one of our beloved spammer...

Re: Overrated, Overused, Overdone, underrated etc.
What other forums do is irrelevant to us (unless you can provide a specific example where half a dozen similar threads have significantly damaged a forum or its community). We are still a forum, the same type of forum as all others. Others use this rule for a reason, to keep the forums moving smoot...

Re: Overrated, Overused, Overdone, underrated etc.
From my experience with several other forums, there is no way that the threads would be allowed all to be open at once. The alternative is creating a sub-forum, not completely sure if it is possible here, but if it is, I'm not willing to do that either. All threads are on the same topic: the status ...

Re: Bassoon Pieces Suggestion?
Precisely why I put the " "!No, not the Mozart. It's too cliche. Please do not do it. I love bassoon literature so here are some suggestions, but please no Mozart.

Re: Overrated, Overused, Overdone, underrated etc.
I've said so countless times; it isn't the word , it's the topic – and the topic is the same. There are 6 threads on the same topic, this is not allowed on any forum (well, maybe 4chan), and it is standard to close all bar one. I have, however, stickied this which is more than any other forum would ...
