Re: Copyright on the scanner/scan?

I'm reminded of the recent bizarre "psycho-acoustic" copyright claims over some songs from the beatles. The claim is quite hypocritical because they of course can take audio (or PDFs from other sites in this case) and claim copyright while with some strange logic it is illegal to go the ot...

Re: Using Photoscore to convert IMSLP's PDF files to notation

"The format recommended by the Petrucci Music library is 600dpi monochrome (B&W, 1 bit per pixel), which is a shame. They do allow grey-scale submissions but don't encourage them." For the quality and file size 600dpi b&w is hard to beat. For music (and text) grayscale really does...

Re: DIY Book Scanner

Automatic page flipping mechanically can become very complicated. I can live without it. Also here's another neat scanning idea: http://www.instructables.com/id/Portable-Paperless-Digital-Copy-Machine/ . You'd need a fairly high resolution camera to get good results I'd imagine, but this seems more ...

DIY Book Scanner

I just found this site: http://www.diybookscanner.org/ (via comments on this slashdot article: http://ask.slashdot.org/story/09/09/27/199251/Software-To-Flatten-a-Photographed-Book) It looks like the setup results in less than 300 dpi grayscale. ~285 dpi was mentioned on the forums which isn't too b...

Mahler's Annotated Symphony No.1

It's an ad to get you to buy their recordings, but the score is still pretty interesting: http://nyphil.org/buy/eStore/maazelMahl ... erset_0902

There's a low quality scan here: http://imslp.org/wiki/Lohengrin,_WWV75_ ... Richard%29. See Act II Scene IV (Scene 4 = Vierte Scene in german).

Re: What is this theme?

The Skeleton Dance and the later Skeleton Frolic both have a very similar theme, but it's not quite it. I thought it might have been written for a cartoon, but maybe not.

Re: Instrument keys on work pages

If playing on natural horn it's needed to know all the necessary crooks for the piece. For playing on a modern instrument it's just nice to know. It lets you know to devote some time to review some études in those keys before the rehearsals. For a conductor or an orchestra librarian it's useful info...

FYI, I changed the 300dpi grayscale jpeg pdf to a 600dpi b&w tiff pdf to make the file smaller.

Re: Use of IMSLP scores in competitions

Is this the same competition? http://www.nats.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=66&Itemid=72 . I don't see a rule like that. I can see it being an unwritten rule that somehow people think exists. Or perhaps that is a rule for the local competition. In any case rules like t...

Re: Creating columns?

Columns are done manually with tables unfortunately. Take a look how the mozart symphonies are done: http://imslp.org/index.php?title=Templa ... ction=edit
