Re: 30 day tagging Marathon!

I'm moving this thread to IMSLP Announcements so that it can be more visible. The marathon will take place during July -- but only if we have enough volunteers. We're half way to the minimum ten we need, so please sign up below if you want to help. Thanks!

Re: 30 day tagging Marathon!

It would be great to finally clear them all! We're just asking people to spare a few minutes each day tagging 10 works (or more if you want), to try to clear the backlog once and for all. If you've read the guidelines and would like to help then please post your name here, and after we get to 10 we'...

Re: Moving works to, and uploading them as, arrangements

If it's a complete, realized and harmonised composition whose author is unknown, then it's "Anonymous". This applies when a work definitely had a composer, but their name has been forgotten. If it's a folksong or traditional melody, hymn, etc., and no single person(s) can ever be credited ...

Indeed, I don't how the uploader (who also tagged the work) made that mistake, but it's fixed now. Thanks for alerting us Pierre .

Re: Beethoven Overture "Namensfeier"

If the title given to the overture in this collection is different, then you can use "[[Overture in C major, Op.115 (Beethoven, Ludwig van)|Namensfeier Ouverture]]", for example. But the current listing looks OK to me. "{{LinkWork}}" is fine if the title of the work is the same a...

Re: Beethoven Overture "Namensfeier"

The Library of Congress authorities at http://lccn.loc.gov/nr93019025 just list this with the title "Overture in C major". My impression from the information given there is that "Namensfeier" is just one of several nicknames.

Re: Spanish composer names

The source we normally look at first is VIAF (viaf.org). This shows two versions of his name: Pacheco, José 1784-1865 - used by the National Library of Spain Pacheco y Basanta, José, 1784-1865 - used by the Library of Congress/NACO In cases where different libraries use different variants, the versi...

Re: lessons from a liturgy

I would go with 'sacred choruses' or 'madrigals' here, as 'lection' itself refers to a scripture reading rather than a musical form, and it's only an extract from a liturgy.

Re: Hindemith Sämtliche Werke Bug

It was difficult to see what was wrong, until I pasted the contents into a text editor, which showed up some invisible control characters in the entries for Band III,4 to 6. Deleting them seems to have fixed it.

Re: Estienne Roger

In the past I've also argued for treating the compiler as the author, but two factors cause me to take a different view in this case. Firstly, the reprints of this edition listed in Worldcat don't give Roger as the author (in fact they only acknowledge Marie Veldhuyzen as the editor of this later re...

Re: aria buffa

Hi Steltz. I'd have to disagree with Mr de Liso on this; if we were to create a special category for aria buffa, we'd have to do the same for every aria parlante, aria di bravura, and all the other potential subdivisions of the aria category. We should stick with the MLA categories, and use "ar...

Re: Estienne Roger

This raises a few interesting issues. Firstly, the workpage you mentioned is for a collection of 996 anonymous works, which were published as "Oude en Nieuwe Hollantse Boerenlieties en Contredansen" by the Amsterdam music publishers Estienne Roger and Pieter Mortier between 1700 and 1716. ...
