approaching 20,000 scores...time for a party?

Post by aldona »

Anything special planned for when we hit the 20,000 score mark?

(currently at 19,736)

Anyone got any ideas?

IMSLP should do April fools announcements like Google does. Doing one this year might have been cruel though: 'IMSLP OPENS TOMORROW!!!' wait, April fools.

How about some very good news concerning Sibley Music Library and IMSLP? ;-)

Now you've got us curious! What kind of news??

That soon all of the Sibley scores will be on IMSLP? (we're working as fast as we can!)

It will be revealed that Feldmahler enjoys teasing people?

Heck, we can't even afford the Kirtas scanner that Google uses (used), and the company is located only about 10 miles from the library. :)

Err... what yagan said :) This is no small accomplishment indeed.

I guess I'll have to tell what is happening with Sibley ;)

I'll have a more detailed blog entry about this ready in hopefully one or two days, but Sibley has officially requested that IMSLP mirror all of the contents of the Sibley online collection. They have also received a very substantial grant to scan more scores, and these will be mirrored on IMSLP as well. Please thank jfarrington above who is the Sibley librarian :-)

So now I can continue to shamelessly borrow scores from Sibley without feeling bad about it!!!

(sometimes it feels a bit like "cheating"...instead of putting in the hard work to scan things myself...)

I love trawling through their collection - lots of treasures waiting to be uncovered.

Long Live Sibley!

Do you think we could do the same with the Danish Royal Library?

Is this going to become a new official community project? I assume the Sibley Music Library is going to work the same as it always has and IMSLP will just mirror the contents. Correct? I guess I'll just wait for the blog announcement.

Hooray for the first 20,000 scores!
