Anniversary and Canadian server announcement

Precisely five years ago (June 30th - July 1st, 2008) IMSLP re-opened after few months of "blackout" related to some legal/copyright issues to be solved in order to stabilize IMSLP's operations.

This anniversary offers the opportunity to announce the official go-live of a new regional server: Petrucci Music Library - Canada (PML-CA). This regional server is especially intended for users located in countries where copyright lasts 50 years from the death of the author (the so-called "50 pma countries"). Most countries of the world are 50 pma, such as Canada, China, Japan, New Zealand, South Africa, and many others. Users that are not located in a 50 pma country may also lawfully use the PML-CA server whenever they meet the "fair use" or "fair dealing" conditions in their relevant jurisdictions.

PML-CA is operated under the responsibility of Project Leonardo Limited, acting as PML-CA's Internet Service Provider (ISP). Project Leonardo Limited is a company incorporated in New Zealand (a 50 pma country) and already plays the same role for the European IMSLP server (IMSLP-EU). New Zealand offers a well defined legal framework and detailed procedures that copyright holders have to follow in the case they intend to notify a copyright infringement to an ISP. Therefore, copyright holders may conveniently submit any copyright infringement notifications to Project Leonardo Limited whenever they identify any alleged infringing materials either on the European or on the Canadian server.

As for the other regional servers, PML-CA is not affiliated with IMSLP, being a completely independent and autonomous initiative. The PML-CA score catalogue is integrated within the main catalogue of Petrucci Music Library. However, when a score at PML-CA is going to be downloaded by a user, a special page is presented so as to inform and warn the user that he/she is leaving the IMSLP context and entering the PML-CA context. The same special page provides a PayPal link for donations to PML-CA: being completely autonomous with respect to IMSLP, PML-CA needs independent funds to cover its operational expenses.
