Arrangement for Max Bruch 8 Pieces (Clarinet, Viola & Piano)

Post by wfeg »

Arrangement for Max Bruch 8 Pieces (Clarinet, Viola & Piano) Op.85
Max Bruch 8 Pieces (Clarinet, Viola & Piano) Op.85 is available on the IMSLP web site, but I have arranged this in two versions:
1. Clarinet, French horn & Piano
2. Violin, French horn & Piano

I have performed both versions and they sound lovely, and I would like to see them recorded by better musicians than myself.
This means getting them uploaded to the IMSLP web site for musicians to download.
What is the copyright situation for arrangements when the arranger is still alive?

I also have a friend who composes, and would like to get public recognition by getting his pieces into the public domain.
Is this allowed on the IMSLP web site?

It is legally impossible in most countries for a work (composition, edition, arrangement, etc.) to be put into the public domain while the author is still living. However, you can upload them licensed under one of the Creative Commons licenses: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/ IMSLP supports all of these licenses except cc-0.
