Verdi Requiem

Post by FG1 »

Is there a copyright problem with the Dover edition of the Verdi Requiem? I assume it is PD in the US and Canada, but perhaps in Copyright in the EU? It is based on the Peters Edition.

No. Kurt Soldan died in 1946. Even assuming the edition is not basically an urtext-type edition (most of his were, actually), he's been dead more than 70 years. While I am sure Edition Peters thinks their publication should be protected by an eternal copyright, they still haven't bribed enough politicians around the world to ensure that this is the case. Guess they're not trying hard enough....

Understood, thanks. It's a little odd that Amazon.com stock the score, but Amazon.co.uk don't though they can supply it through their contacts.

But perhaps there is another reason for this.

I have scanned the score, and will upload when I have a moment.
