'Rhene-Baton, Emmanuel' or 'Baton, Rene-Emmanuel'

Post by steltz »

Even the French Wikipedia site gives 2 versions of this. I'm used to seeing it at Rhene-Baton (which doesn't mean that's necessarily correct), and with this spelling, it should be alphabetized under R. (This doesn't count as a preposition in a surname such as van Beethoven.)

In http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhen%C3%A9-Baton

the heading says Rhene-Baton, the surname is clearly under R, with the hyphen between Rhene and Baton.

On the very next line, Rhene is treated as a first name, hyphenated with Emmanuel.

People who are used to seeing Rhene-Baton will look under R and think there is nothing of his on IMSLP.

If French Wikipedia has the heading under R, then surely that is where it should be, he being French? Or can someone shed more light on this?

(Sorry I've left out accents, I can't find an <insert symbol> on this page.)

And a redirect under "Baton" could be kept so as to take one to the correct entry.

Or maybe someone else could do this, or advise on how it should be done.
