Hungarian Folk Tunes

Post by baton »

Can anyone send me the music or give me a source for the Hungarian Folk Tune "The Peacock" as used in Kodaly's Peacock Variations?
I am interested in both the original Hungarian text and the authentic tune in its folk format.

I think Bartok and Kodaly both published some rather extensive folksong collections. I'd try looking there first.

Kodály used a song in the old style "Leszállott a páve" under the title
"Fölszállott a páva".
You find the begining of the melody at: musipedia.org.

Bartók also used this melody in his work: Three Hungarian folk-tunes : piano solo Sz 71
