Uploading to a specific instrumentation page

Post by boreifs »

I have just uploaded an arrangement for three trombones onto my own composer page, but would also like it uploaded on the specific "three trombones(arr.)" page as well. I have been unable to figure out how to do this. Please help me find out how this is possible; otherwise, my arrangements will never find an audience.

Also, when I search for my name as composer, no match is found. The only way I can find my arrangement is by searching "all people". Is this just a time lag issue, or is there yet another step I need to take.

Thanks very much in advance for your help with these two important issues.

If you click on your username, you can add a link to your category page on the edit window their.

I think I found your composer page:
http://imslp.org/wiki/Category:Reifsnyder,_Bob

Your arrangement is called Baroque Bone Squad Collection and arranges a set of Bach cantatas for three trombones. Usually an arrangement would go on the page of the original work, but not if it involves multiple works. In that case, the page should be a collection, with the original composer in the title. Example:
http://imslp.org/wiki/Machaut_Set_(Mach ... llaume_de)

By specifying yourself as the arranger, the work is added to your composer page automatically. For the Three Trombones category, that will also happen automatically when the tags are set: http://imslp.org/wiki/IMSLP:Tagging
In this case, I think the instrumentation tag would be '3tbn'. But I'm not sure how the wiki chooses between the regular and (arr.) versions.

Have you uploaded the files yet? Typically the copyright reviewers will also take care of these details when they get around to your submission.

The reason why you can't search your name is probably because Google's web crawlers haven't visited yet to index your additions (seeing as IMSLP uses Google search). They should stop by again soon.

I'm not sure this answers the question?

I managed to get the page added to the "for 3 trombones (arr.)" category. It involves using a specific section header as described here: http://imslp.org/wiki/MediaWiki:Genres/Arrangements

The section header really looks superfluous on the page, and it needed to be at a specific header level too, so the "Volume 1" header is pushed down to an obscenely small font size.

Is this important? Probably not, but it's messy.

Work page for reference:

Also, I added a link on your composer page to your IMSLP user page (Sallen already did the inverse), I hope you don't mind ;)

Don't mess the with tagging please on the page, we have a Category tagger expert who comes around and adds this into the page and know the system.

Also its kind of pointless to display the username on the composer page because if you include the link on your user page itself (which I have already done), this links to the composer page already and you can access it on one of the workpages (the username on the filestack). The reason I include "something" like the composer page link on that is to turn the red links into blue.

Right, my apologies; I thought tagging was left up to the individual contributors. In any case, the tags are now fixed thanks to Steltz ([1]).

I'm having a lot of trouble interpreting this paragraph. I linked from the composer page to the user page (using the dedicated '|IMSLP Contributor' field) and you linked from the user page to the composer page (as I acknowledged); what part of that is pointless? I'm not being obtuse on purpose, just trying to learn things that I may have missed.

He does not have to split up the collection - that is why we added collection pages a few years ago. This way he can get his items up relatively fast and the crosslinks between the content listing and the Bach pages can be handled later.
