Telemann, Ouverture-Suite TWV 55:C7 (4?)

Post by steltz »

I've been checking the Ouverture-Suites to see that they are tagged correctly, and I came across this one:

http://imslp.org/wiki/Ouverture-Suite,_ ... g_Philipp)

The instrumentation described as 2 oboes, bassoon, strings, bc, but TWV55:C7 in Grove is strings only. I downloaded the music and it does indeed have 2 oboe parts and a bassoon part. This happens to be the exact instrumentation of TWV55:C4.

Would someone be able to check if this is a simple case of a mistaken identifying number and that this is actually TWV55:C4?

Thanks.

[Edit] A similar situation exists with these:

According to Grove, TWV55:F12 has only 2 horns, strings, but this says "2oboes, bassoon, 2 horns, and b.c. This happens to be the exact instrumentation of TWV55:F3.

Where Grove says "solo vn, str", but the SLUB Dresden parts clearly have 2 oboe parts, but this time there is no other Ouverture-Suite that happens to have the alternate instrumentation. It doesn't seem to be an autograph manuscript, so is it possible that people just wrote out extra parts if they wanted to add?

TWV 55:C4 has 10 movements, TWV 55:C7 only 6. (Compare http://www.uquebec.ca/musique/catal/tel ... lgp55.html)
The oboes are just an acoustic colour, the parts are not automomous.
