Handel, Quel fior HWV 192 vs 200

Post by steltz »

This page:

http://imslp.org/wiki/Quel_fior_all%27a ... _Frideric)

may have a wrong HWV number. Grove Music lists 4 versions of this, each with its own HWV number. They say that HWV 192 was 2 sopranos only, and that HWV 200 was the version for 2 sopranos and continuo. (There is also a solo cantata HWV 154 and then a version with a slightly different text which doesn't seem to have an HWV number).

However, this specific page, since it has continuo, would seem to be HWV 200. It's a typeset, with no source listed.

Should I just move it?

(I'm holding off tagging it until this is resolved.)

The title page with HWV 192 is correct. HWV 200 is a terzett (for 2 sopranos and a bass voice), whereas HWV 192 is a duett for sopranos,
both works with continuo. compare http://www.klassika.info/Komponisten/Ha ... index.html and

One can find the composition here too: http://imslp.org/wiki/Duos_and_Trios,_2 ... rideric%29 , No.16.
Additional remark:
This page is marked for cleanup because the files should be split into their constituent pieces and moved to individual work pages/HWV numbers — P.davydov 08:51, 29 August 2010 (UTC).

Sorry I haven't had a chance to get back to this, but I'm dealing with another problem right now. Do you have any idea why Grove would list the 192 as being without continuo?

I don't know the exact quote of Grove, probably the work is listed under "Italian arias" with the addition (SS), whereas HWV 200 is also an italian aria with (SSB). So we have two voices in HWV 192 and three voices in HWV 200. The continuo part is not mentioned, because the notion "italian aria" includes a continuo part. A hint to the autograph can be found in RISM. Type HWV 192 in the search window and refine to "Duette".

I would think, you can go ahead and tag the workpage HWV 192. Everything has been cleared up.
