New category - Basso Continuo Sources

Hello,

I would like to open a new category: "Basso Continuo Sources".
This will include tagging existing files and uploading new ones.
Can someone help me with creating this category?

Many thanks in advanced,
Elam Rotem.

You can't create a new category like that I'm afraid, as the tagging is carefully controlled by a specialist team. But if you can explain here why you would like that category to be created, and what it's for, we'll consider it.

Well, wouldn't it be rather superfluous anyway, given that things which include continuo outside of large ensembles/orchestras are already tagged specifically for them? Isn't there a 'scores featuring basso continuo' category, or some such, as things stand presently?

Our "Category Walker" allows people to find works that fall into two or more different categories. For example, works already tagged for "Performance practice" and "Basso continuo" are listed here:

http://imslp.org/index.php?title=Catego ... e:Catintro

This can also be found by clicking the "Instrumentation/Genre" link in the sidebar, then "For continuo" and "[Walk]"

I see. So I'd have to tag in both categories?

Don't you think that the "performance practice" category can grow branches that will make it easier to browse? Counterpoint treatises, Diminutions manuals, Instruments treatises, and so on?
I would love to have these special categories, but my first interest would be to make a rich Basso Continuo Sources category.
I'm happy also to give from my time and manage it if necessary, I did my first Master specializing in Basso Continuo, and now I'm writing a PhD dissertation about the early Basso Continuo.

Please re-consider my request.
Many thanks in advanced,
Elam.

If you create new pages and upload files (in addition for works we already have), our tagging team will take care of the rest. In the meantime you might also like to browse through our genres using the category walker, as many of the categories you mentioned already exist.

Well, thanks, but I find the category walker a rather complicated solution for my request.
In my opinion Basso Continuo treatises is an important branch in music history and should be easily accessed.

All the best for now.

It is often confusing the first couple of times, until you get used to it. Do this:

1) From the main wiki page, click "Instrumentation/genre" (It's in the left column)
2) Scroll down until you get to "Writings"
3) Click "walk" (just to the left of the word "Writings")
4) Scroll down to "Featured Instruments" and near the top of the list you will find "Scores with basso continuo".
5) Click on "show pages" (just to the right of the number of scores that intersect both terms). This gives you all 49 scores that have both terms in the tags. (DON'T click on the "Scores with basso continuo" or you will get all 5,341 scores with continuo!)

5 clicks does it, and I'm not sure we are going to get it to a smaller number, given that we are looking for intersecting tags. You currently have 49 texts you can study.

Thanks.
Is there something I can do to make sure that the new pages I upload will get there?
Or how can I edit/report on other uploads that should be also this double category of "Writing" + "Scores with basso continuo".

Thanks,
Elam.

No, not really -- the tagging really does have to be by the team. The good news is that we are more than 98% tagged. If something takes longer than a couple of weeks, let us know, and we will prioritize it.

For example, there is this: http://imslp.org/wiki/Per_sonar_nel%27o ... dovico_da)
The preface of this publication contains important basso continuo text (i.e. should be tagged also in "writings").
There is nothing I can do to help it be tagged well?
Can uploaders can't even suggest taggings?

Thanks,
Elam.

Uploaders can most certainly suggest tags, but please bear in mind that we have to operate according international library standards, so we have to look at things according to their guidelines.

I will have a look at Per sonar.

Sorry for keep going on about this,
but what can the uploader do in order to suggest tags to a specific page? (not including writing in the forums for each case)

Tags can't be suggested -- they are determined by the words in the title or subtitle. Apart from that, if an arrangement is made, the arrangement header will itself put a work in a given list, so the tag is only on the original title and the original instrumentation. There are further rules that determine that certain words can only be used for certain genres of music and not others, even when they are in the title. This is one of the reasons why we cannot make it a free-for-all with everyone making up their own tags. Sorry.

I don´t see how to find workpages with writings concerning b.c., if they are no compositions on these workpages. On the other hand,
if there are compositions with b.c., but the workpage don´t have the tag "writings" inspite of the fact, that it contains theoretical comments,
it will not be found too in the intersection which davydov mentioned. So it is a good question: How can all writings concerning b.c. be listed?
