Monteverdi, Confitebor settings

Post by steltz »

Monteverdi did 7 settings of Confitebor tibi domine. IMSLP has 2 of these, or 3 depending on the listing

We have two listed on one page, but the music download looks like it is only one, and Grove lists two different instrumentations for the SV numbers:

http://imslp.org/wiki/Confitebor_tibi_d ... Claudio%29

Grove's listing for SV 265 says "A, T, B, chorus 5vv, bc, 1641; M xv, 297; F xv, 505"
Grove's listing for 193 says "Confitebor tibi Domine (iv), S, 2 vn/va da braccio, bc, 1650; M xvi, 129; F xviii, 230"

The download from our page is definitely ATB soloists with 5-voice choir and continuo.

It doesn't look to me like 193 should be on that page at all, given that its first publication date is 1650, so the source is different.

Should "+193" be taken out of the title?

Yes, there should be two different pages. There is a reason 2 different catalogue numbers were assigned.
