They are not in the public domaine in EU as of yet, contrary to what is posted on Wiki.

Could you be more specific? Is this a composer or a piece?

I guess this is, as usual, about Ravel and his Boléro.

All works by Ravel are public domain since January 1st, 2008, in the EU and in all countries where the copyright term is 70 years from the death of the author.

The only exception is France as the so-called "Prorogations de guerre" apply to works published before the world wars. Boléro was premiered in 1928 so the second world war extension (8 years and 120 days) applies. Therefore Boléro will enter public domain in France on April 30, 2016.

The IMSLP-EU server is located in The Netherlands, so on the server side Boléro is certainly public domain. On the client side, especially French users should not neglect the disclaimer that is shown to them before downloading:

IMSLP-EU makes no guarantee that the files provided for download on IMSLP-EU are public domain in your country and assumes no legal responsibility or liability of any kind for their copyright status. Please obey the copyright laws of your country and consult the copyright statute itself or a qualified IP attorney to verify whether a certain file is in the public domain in your country or if downloading a copy constitutes fair use.

BY CLICKING ANY LINK ON THIS SITE INCLUDING THE LINK BELOW, YOU ACKNOWLEDGE THAT YOU UNDERSTAND AND AGREE TO THE ABOVE DISCLAIMER.

Please close this window or leave this site if you do not agree.

I hope this clarifies the picture.

According to footnote #49 of http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bol%C3%A9ro_%28Ravel%29#cite_note-49 the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Court_of_Cassation_%28France%29 suppressed these war extensions in 2007. But I don't see the minutes of the lawsuit
