Alphabetic sorting of letters with diacritics

Post by Leonard Vertighel »

Do we have a convention for sorting letters with diacritics (à, á, ä, å,...)? It seems that different languages use different conventions, which clearly is not feasible for IMSLP. Should we just sort them all under the corresponding letter without the diacritic (i.e. sort à, á, ä, å,... all like a)?

That seems logical, on the basis that the Mediawiki software appears to sort its lists by the English alphabet (regardless of the defaut language chosen). The {{DEFAULTSORT}} command will sometimes have to be used to prevent accented characters appearing at the end of the list, particularly in composer names...
