Category by rough difficulty rating

Post by Chalkwriter »

I think that having a category for difficulty ratings will make IMSLP more accessible (people will find it easier to search for something at what they think their standard is), as there is no way to find out whether the music is easy or difficult without going into the score. It will just save a bit more time when searching for a suitable piece for, say, a young string quartet or school orchestra.

Any thoughts?

I agree. I think it would be extremely helpful to many people, especially those who aren't as musically learned.

I realize that this thread is dead by now, but I'd like to point out that this has been brought up more than once in the past; for probably the most detailed treatment, see viewtopic.php?f=7&t=3531 (it was also brought up at viewtopic.php?f=3&t=4602#p24319 and viewtopic.php?f=3&t=3239&p=17317). If one is to seriously propose a difficulty rating system then I think it would be advisable to keep in mind the arguments and suggestions advanced in those threads.
