Retrieving 'lost'cadenzas for the Beethoven Violin concerto

Postby Graham1973 » Fri Jul 22, 2016 2:41 pm

Note: If this belongs in another part of the forum please move it to the correct area.

I was reading an article on the Beethoven Violin concerto which covered recordings from the Acoustic era up to the present day. In it two recordings (Juan Manen, Orquesta Sinfonica de Barcelona, Concordio Gelabert (1916)) and (Louis Zimmermann, Concertgebouw Orchestra, Willem Mengelberg) are mentioned where it is indicated that the soloist performed cadenzas they had created themselves or in any case ones that were never published.

I have no idea of the difficulties of transcribing a recording into notation, but I do know that it is possible.

For anyone who is interested in following this idea up the article is linked below.
