Koussevitsky Double Bass Concerto

Post by lancec »

Just wondering: Are the Farid Zehar parts on https://imslp.org/wiki/Double_Bass_Conc ... %2C_Serge) the right parts? They seem to match the Farid Zehard score, but not the Robert Forberg score. Are the Farid Zehar parts and score for a different piece, perhaps?

Hello, it seems to me like Farid Zehar's edition matches that of the Robert Forberg, in the original key and also transposed one whole step lower so that it can be played with the double bass tuned in the standard orchestral tuning rather than in "solo tuning". Also keep in mind that Zehar's is just for the second movement. Maybe that's what threw you off?

Your question worried me for a second because there is an alternative orchestration (by Norman Ludwin, I think?) which possibly used to be more common than the original, and is still under copyright worldwide. But it isn't this one.
