Real performances on Electronic Instruments - Where do they

Post by rkram53 »

If I record a real analog performance but it is on an electronic or synthesized instrument (record the analog output of a digital piano for example), does it go under Synthesized MIDI? Also if I compose a piece specifically for electronic/synthesized media, does that go under Synthesized/MIDI?

Thanks

In both cases I think it would be appropriate for the recording to be put under the normal tabbing system (i.e., not Synthesized/MIDI). In the first case, there was direct human involvement in the performance making it by definition not synthesized; in the second case, it doesn't really make sense because there would be no way for a performance to not be synthesized, and therefore there is no reason to set it aside under a heading that implies greater artifice.

Thanks. I agree that makes the most sense.
