Tivadar Nachéz String Quartet/Violin Concertos

Post by JimL »

I recently found a reference to this Hungarian violinist/composer, who was a product of the Franco-Belgian school (although he admired his countryman Joachim's playing), and a friend and favorite of Liszt. Although he is remembered for a couple of Gypsy Dances, which sometimes pop up as encore pieces at violin recitals, he also composed a string quartet and two violin concertos. Does anyone know where these might be found?

I see that the Nachéz (or is it Nachèz) violin concertos are indeed here (although the 1st is only in reduction.) Upon examining the score of the 2nd, I see that the 3rd movement is slightly mis-labeled. Although the movement opens with a cyclic recall of the opening Allegro appassionato from the first movement, the main body of the finale itself is marked Allegro energico.
