[FEAT] Extension:Translate

Postby dacuetu » Mon Jan 30, 2012 2:37 pm

As IMSLP grows, and grows, it is difficult to keep track of all necessary changes to keep up-to-date translations and the quality of the translation. For that reason I'd like to propose the installation and use of the mediawiki extension Extension:Translate.

It is possible than the old system and the extension's system coexist for a while, and if everything works fine, then it would be possible to migrate to the new system gradually. The extension supports in-wiki-page-text translations.

What are your thoughts about this? Is it worth the effort?

This is quite interesting. While I do not yet know if the benefits justify the costs (i.e. I have not looked into the extension in depth), I will definitely keep this one in mind for when the appropriate time comes.

For normal users, other that nice statistics and hiding the translation editions, there are not that many benefits. On the other hand, if translators and translation admins try it out, they might be so delighted that they will want to migrate to the system as soon as possible. The interface is user-friendly, with built-in translation tools (Google Translate, Microsoft's Bing Translator and Apertium), besides it supports paragraph-by-paragraph tracking, so that if a paragraph changes the full page doesn't become totally outdated, only the changed part. And the documentation about this extension is quite complete.

Hopefully you like it!
