Please help: Identify Classical (Romantic?) Piano Solo Sheet Music Excerpt

Post by zhukant »

Hello there, esteemed sheet music experts!

My friend inherited some art that was made using a piece of classical piano solo sheet music as the base for the painting. We have been trying to identify it for some time now. We made some posts on Reddit, and there was even a person who played the majority of the excerpt at a very expert level, but still no major leads on what composition it is from. The only additional items we noticed are the following:
  • It looks like the piece is in 6/8 time and either in C Major or A minor. It seems most similar to Romantic compositions in style.
  • The composition seems to be located on pages 1,989 and 1,990 of a very large compilation volume; the piece starts before these pages and ends after them.
  • The bottoms of the two pages contain the ID markers 5-78-8 and 6-78-8. These seem important, but we are not sure how to interpret them.
If anyone could help to identify this piece, we would be very grateful! Here are some links:

All my best in the new year,

It's Anton Rubenstein's "Staccato" Etude op. 23 no. 2
