Reneicke, Beethoven Trios - Clarinet Parts

Post by Nikos »

Hey guys! Does anyone have :

Carl Reinecke's Trio Op.274 - The clarinet part of this beaudiful trio?
Only the piano, viola, and violin parts are uploaded and it is quite difficult to play the whole thing from the violin part...

Beethoven Trio Op.38 - Clarinet and Cello parts (the ones uploaded are of poor quality)

Thanks!!!

When publishing alternate versions of instrumental pieces with piano accompaniment, publishers will occasionally include the original piano score (with original instrumentation) and provide only the alternate parts. Since the cover page of the posted music mentions only piano, violin, viola, that may explain why the original parts are missing.

@Reinecke: http://imslp.org/wiki/Trio_for_Piano,_C ... cke,_Carl) Hum, a funny situation! The cover page says Violin & Viola and p.2 of the Piano score says these instruments are alternate for 2 wind instruments! :-)

Yes, as noted above: publishers may decide to keep the piano score as originally written, just changing the solo parts. A good example of this is the set of Studies on English Folksongs by Vaughan Williams. Originally written for cello and piano, the pieces have been transcribed for a variety of solo instruments. No matter which solo instrument, the piano score always shows the cello part; only the solo part varies.

There is a better scan of the piano score on: http://imslp.org/wiki/Werke_%28Beethoven,_Ludwig_van%29 Abteilung IV, Band 3, p.103. But sorry, not the "real" clarinet and cello parts :-(

Has anyone seen alternate parts for Reinecke trios Op 264 and 108?

Op 264 (cl va p) could have violin for cl, cl or vc for va.
Op 108 (ob, hn or vc p) could have cl and va parts. The ob part makes quite a comfortable cl part, though the finale in A major would be best on a cl in A. The ob part is quite easy on the vl, too.

Then all three trios (274, 264, 108) could be played by vl/cl/ob, cl/va/vc and 274, 108 with horn as the lower part.

For the Beethoven Trio Op.38 I uploaded the scans from the Beethoven Werke (Breitkopf). They should be much better than the first edition scans.
Have fun!
