3 Sonatinas, Op.38 (Clementi, Muzio)

Postby Davydov » Fri Jan 08, 2010 9:48 pm

Can someone take a look at this and say whether or not it's actually by Clementi? According to Grove his Op.38 should be a set of 12 waltzes for percusssion (!), and the keys of the three sonatinas in the uploaded set don't match any of the sets in Clementi's worklist. There's also a logo on the edition that should perhaps be removed.

The logo on these files is the logo of the uplader, Caprotti. So this should be fine - there was even a discussion on the forum here some weeks ago viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2819&hilit=caprotti

There are several other editions of Sonatinas op.38 on the italian internet culturale:
http://opac.internetculturale.it/cgi-bi ... ate=musica
so this should be just a case of duplicated opus numbers

Edit: In worldcat there is an 1820's André entry: "6 leichte Sonatinen, op. 36 (früher op. 38)"

Thanks, ctesibius. Is there anything in the thematic catalog that would match the works we have as Op.38? Perhaps the work has been wrongly attributed to Clementi...

Hi,
the correct opus number is op. 4 nos. 4-6
Six sonatas for piano with violin or flute op. 4

in particular
op. 4 no. 4 = op. 38 no. 1
op. 4 no. 5 = op. 38 no. 2
op. 4 no. 6 = op. 38 no. 3

Thanks Ctesibius! The same files were actually included on the Op.4 page as well, and as the Op.38 reference appears to be spurious I've just redirected Op.38 to Op.4.

When I uploaded a lot of Clementi's scores I was very careful to follow Tyson's thematic catalogue. I'm not responsible for further wrong address links that were made by IMSLP administrators !
