Official MIT library endorsement

Postby horndude77 » Sun Feb 04, 2007 4:39 am

It looks like MIT's Lewis Music Library links directly to IMSLP: http://libraries.mit.edu/music/

Here's their blog entry telling about it: http://news-libraries.mit.edu/blog/archives/354

Exciting news!

Hehe... I also noticed the MIT libraries a few days ago in the referrer section of the logs (my version of the log with all the referrers/IPs that is... didn't enable that on the public one for fear of privacy issues).

I've also received an enthusiastic e-mail from the librarian of one of the most famous universities in Canada :)

Also, Manhattan School of Music's Library links to IMSLP too :)

Outstanding - congratulations! The idea of setting up IMSLP as a wiki was really a stroke of genius. There is really no other dowloadable music score site quite like it apart from CPDL.

The link from the library site might be the "official" MIT endorsement, but the profs in music at MIT have been using the works in our classes since day one of IMSLP. What a great project. Also, the MIT OpenCourseWare project is linking to IMSLP scores where available for pieces used in MIT courses, so that's a second endorsement.

Just uploaded my first set of PD scores (finally giving _something_ back); thanks for making it so easy! Agreed that the Wiki format was the stroke of genius. That plus the GNU Free Documentation License which lets users know it's worth our time to contribute.

Thank you! I'm very happy that you and other MIT professors found IMSLP useful! It is things like this that make me feel all the trouble IMSLP contributors went through was worth it :)
