Also, we need to give Feldmahler some room and space. He will be quite busy for the next month or so, so it is understandable that IMSLP may not be back anytime soon.

Oh you mean they're not the same guy? I thought Schobert was a typo for Franz Peter Schubert. Obviously Johann Schobert was somebody else.

I really do not understand why does IMSLP have to comply with Spanish and French copyright law when it is physically hosted in Canada? Mr Irons, how can you justify the need for Canadians IN CANADA to comply and observe with Spanish and French copyright laws when they are not even in those countries...

With the amount of publicity generated, hopefully publishers would think twice before issuing C and D letters in the future.

Also, I would think UE wouldn't dare to issue the C and D letter in the first place if they haven't consulted their lawyers and what legal actions they can take. Just think, UE's intentions might be good, but due to their lawyers (the letter was also issued by their lawyer), the whole issue has just...

Also, not only do they be reluctant to give away that information, they may also refuse to divulge more information regarding the year of publication of some of the works published under UE. This has been a very big problem, not limited only to UE. Many publishers seem reluctant to put the date and ...

Hi Odin,
Do you think it is a good idea pushing UE back against a corner? I mean, like a bruised animal, they could bite back with a huge bang if threatened further. I'm just giving an example of some actions they can take, like sue you for defamation or something like that.

Yours,

Vivaldi

Also, exactly how many composers' (living or dead) copyright are being claimed by UE? And how many critical editions which are published less than 50 years ago for composers who died more than 50 years ago, are the copyrights claimed as well? The one problem with is this is that we may be losing out...

I can fully understand if UE proceeded with the C and D letter in the first place, after all they were just protecting their interests, albeit using the wrong approach. But if they did really intimidate Mr Feldmahler, then that is plain wrong and I would be pretty p*ssed off if they really did.

Agreed. Get IMSLP back on track and then worry about the copyright laws later.

Although I can also understand what UE's argument is, they cannot just barge in on Feldmahler like that without stating a specific reason. A police can't just arrest someone and say "You're under arrest for breaking the law". If they want to present a C and D letter, do it properly. State ...

Entschuldigung Odin, I applaud your actions, but I'm afraid UE will won't care. Their publications are mainly targeted at professional musicians and orchestras. I seriously doubt the boycott from us amateurs will dent their sales or reputation. However, if your idea can be successful, you would have...

Hallo Kalli
I denke auch! UE ist ein Schw*in! Aber ich verstehe nicht, was bedeuten Sie "Vielleicht sind sie ja zu Zugestaendnissen bereit!" ? Was wollen sie (UE)?
