I suppose UE got what they deserved. But I feel that a boycott is not an answer. Try convincing that to hundreds of orchestras or libraries around the world when they depend on UE's sale or rental of scores of copyrighted music under UE. I don't think it is going to happen on a very large scale that...

Either that or just have a uniform copyright law which is the same, equal and enforcible for each and every country in the world, which, sad to say, is not going to happen anytime soon.

Buxtehude's assertion about Dover is correct. However, Dover only reprinted works published by UE which are clearly public domain, for example the first editions of Mahler's 1st symphony which was published by UE early in the 20th century. Over the years, the 1st symphony was revised and updated by ...

The only sensible solution to all this mess is of course to make a uniform copyright law which is equal and is enforcable in every country around the world. Sadly, I doubt this will ever happen.

Dover cannot sell some scores directly to other countries where the works are still protected. Take for example Stravinsky's works (eg. Rite of Spring). These works are available only in the U.S. Other examples include Mozart's operas (for legal reasons these titles cannot be sold in the Federal Rep...

ArticWind7 is right. Many websites like the ones he mentioned provide warnings that prohibit a person from entering a site if he is underage or (though I've never seen this before) if he is from a particular region or country. But without any internet control or such, he could still enter the site, ...

I understand perfectly what their demands are. My only wish is that they disclose the year of publication of the works which they claimed are still under copyright by the UE and IMSLP has hosted. I am just merely ensuring that they have a legal merit to their claims and not just making one out of a ...

To Universal Edition Aktien Geselschaft, I apologize if some comments made in the forums regarding your actions are unpleasant. But for your company to claim copyright work which the composer died more than 50 years ago, you have to provide evidence that the work is indeed published less than 50 yea...

Boxtehude, you're being unfair to Dover. Although they offer the same thing as IMSLP which are public domain scores, they sold the scores at a price to cover printing, binding as well as the raw material costs. If you download music from IMSLP, wouldn't you have to spend some cash printing and bindi...
